Episode 100 of DocWorking: The Whole Physician Podcast is about physician burnout and how to pivot in your career, in this case into medical journalism, and still make a difference.
“Also the culture of medicine: We were told to not care for ourselves, to just care for everyone else, to show up to grand rounds, it didn’t matter how long your shift was the night before, to be ready and prepared to go, and rest wasn’t important.” -Dr. Hansa Bhargava
In today’s episode Dr. Jen Barna talks with Dr. Hansa Bhargava about her career in medicine and then her pivot into medical journalism. As a pediatrician and educator for over 15 years, Dr. Bhargava is passionate about making a difference in families’ lives. As a staff physician at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Senior Medical Director at WebMD and currently as Chief Medical Officer at Medscape Education, her goal is to make factual and relevant health information accessible for all. She is also an elected member of the executive committee for the Council on Communications and Media for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Tune in to hear her story and what she recommends for other physicians interested in getting their start in medical journalism.
Dr Bhargava is a thought leader, writer and speaker on mental health in families and healthcare workers and has spoken at International Society for Pediatric Innovation, the FDA, as well as at the Health Communication National Conference and has done talks with Former First Lady Michelle Obama and at UNICEF roundtables. She recently produced the Resiliency Medscape series ‘The Doctors Dilemma of Overcoming Burnout,’ is currently teaching a resiliency course, Cognitive Based Compassion Training (CBCT) at the Emory University Medical School. She writes regularly for Forbes for mental wellbeing and has authored the book ‘Building Happier Kids’ slated for publication by the American Academy of Pediatrics in early 2022.
In a broader philanthropic role, Dr Bhargava is on the Emory Global Health Institute Council and on the Advisory Board for the Christopher Wolfe Crusade for prevention of opioid addiction. She is board certified in Pediatrics and a favorite role is to be a mom to two teen kids in Atlanta.

Outsourcing allows you to delegate tasks to virtual assistants so you can free up your time and finally do whatever it is you’ve been wanting to do.
